Why the lakes change the wear

JLT is a grid of clusters, two or three towers each, standing around man-made lakes. Humidity around the lakes sits higher than a couple of streets inland and never quite dries out overnight. That damp air carries fine dust off the promenades into the bottom track, where it turns to a paste that grinds down roller wheels, and it keeps the gaskets swollen and soft until they harden and split.
