A glass balustrade is what stands between a balcony and a drop, so a wobbly post or a cracked panel is a safety fault first and a cosmetic one second.
We repair balustrades anywhere in Dubai: scratched panels assessed honestly for polishing or replacement, shattered toughened panels replaced to size, loose posts and wobbly handrails re-fixed, and dull, oxidised spigots and clamps renewed.

What can be polished out, what has to be replaced, and how we tell
Scratches divide into two kinds by feel, not by looks. If a fingernail does not catch in the mark, it sits in the surface and polishing will lift it. If the nail catches, the scratch has depth, and polishing a deep line into a toughened panel thins the glass exactly where it is weakest.
So we say plainly when a scratch is not worth polishing. On a balustrade the honest recommendation is often replacement of that one panel, and the panels around it stay where they are.
Toughened glass does not crack and wait: it breaks into a sheet of blunt fragments all at once, often from an edge chip that happened weeks earlier. A panel in that state is replaced, never repaired, and until the new one arrives the opening is made safe.
Loose posts and wobbly handrails are usually the fixings rather than the glass. Spigots work in their bolts, the base plate loses its grip on the slab, and the sway you feel at the top is many small movements added together at the bottom.

Toughened or laminated: what must be standing
The glass in a balustrade is chosen by what it must do when it breaks
Toughened glass is strong and, when it finally goes, it goes completely: the whole panel turns to blunt fragments in an instant. That is safe for the person leaning on it and unhelpful for the opening it was filling, which is suddenly empty.
Laminated glass keeps a layer between the panes, so a broken panel stays standing in its fixings while it waits to be changed. On a balcony above a walkway that difference is the whole point.
So the first thing we look at is what is standing today. Where a balustrade is glazed in something that is neither toughened nor laminated, we tell you that at the assessment, before the conversation moves on to price.
Replacement panels are made to the measured size, with the edges worked and the holes positioned for the fixings that are already in the slab, so the new panel drops into the system that is there.
Until it arrives, the gap is boarded or fenced so the balcony is not left open, and that is done on the same visit as the survey.

What we repair on glass balustrades
A glass balustrade is a safety barrier first and an architectural feature second, so every call-out doubles as a safety check: whatever brought us out, the technician also confirms that the panels, fixings and handrail will still do their job at the edge of a drop. The reassuring part is that most balustrade faults live in the fittings, not the glass. Gaskets, anchors, spigots and brackets can all be renewed for a fraction of what a rebuilt railing would cost, and we only recommend new glass when the panel itself is genuinely finished. A balustrade has fewer moving parts than a window, but every one of them takes punishment from the Dubai sun, dust and coastal air.
Scratched glass panels
Fine surface scratches can often be machine-polished out on-site. Deep scratches and chips cannot, and on toughened glass they are a structural concern rather than a cosmetic one. We tell you which you have before anything is agreed.
Cracked and shattered panels
Toughened balustrade glass never cracks politely; when it fails, the entire sheet bursts into small granules at once. We make the opening safe, measure the aperture and fit a new made-to-measure safety-glass panel.
Loose posts and wobbly handrails
Movement at the base is a fixing problem: stretched or corroded anchors, tired base plates, or a handrail that has worked free of its brackets. All of it can be re-fixed without disturbing the glass.
Oxidised and seized spigots, clamps and standoffs
Coastal humidity dulls, pits and eventually seizes stainless fittings. Renewing them is hardware work, the same trade as window handles and locks, and it transforms how the balustrade looks as well as how it holds.
Perished gaskets and rattling glass
The rubber gaskets inside base channels and clamps shrink and harden in the heat until the panel rattles or shifts under hand pressure. New gaskets lock the glass back in solid — a sealing job, normally done in one visit.
Removing and refitting panels or whole runs
We dismantle balustrades ahead of terrace waterproofing or renovation works and reinstall them afterwards, and we re-set runs where panels have crept out of line over the years.
Common balustrade problems in Dubai homes
Scratched balustrade glass: polishing or replacement?
Scratched panels are the single most common balustrade complaint we hear in Dubai, and the market is full of overpromising on both sides: polishing outfits that claim any mark can be buffed away, and glaziers who quote a new panel for a scuff. The truth sits in between, and it is easy to test. Run a fingernail across the mark. If the nail glides over without catching, the scratch is shallow enough that machine polishing on-site will usually remove it or fade it to the point of being invisible in normal light. Typical culprits at this depth are abrasive cleaning pads, wind-blown sand rubbed in during wiping, and pets or furniture dragged along the glass. If the fingernail catches, the scratch is too deep to polish responsibly. Removing that much material from a toughened panel means grinding into the compressed surface layer that gives the glass its strength — a bad trade on a barrier that exists to stop people falling. The same goes for chips, weld or grinder spatter burnt into the surface from nearby building works, and etching from years of hard-water staining. In those cases the honest answer is a replacement panel, and we say so plainly, exactly as we do with window glass replacement.
Do you replace one panel or the whole run?
Almost always one. A single damaged sheet is measured and matched to its neighbours in thickness, type and tint, and a fresh panel sitting beside older ones is rarely noticeable once the run is cleaned. The exception is a run where every panel is sand-blasted or etched from long exposure; there we will show you the condition honestly and let you decide whether a full re-glaze is worth it.
Cracked or shattered balustrade panels
Toughened glass fails all at once. A hidden edge chip, an impact, a fixing tightened against bare glass or, rarely, an impurity inside the sheet itself can sit quietly for months and then let go without warning, turning the whole panel into a heap of blunt granules. Unnerving to witness, but this is the material doing its job: granules instead of dagger-shaped shards. Laminated balustrade glass behaves differently. It cracks but stays in one piece, held together by its interlayer, so the barrier keeps standing until the panel is swapped. It still needs replacing — a cracked laminated panel has lost most of its strength — but there is no urgent hole in the railing.
A missing panel on a balcony or terrace
A different matter, especially at height or where children are around. Our line answers 24/7: we cordon or board the gap the same day, sweep up the granules (they travel remarkably far — into drainage channels, planters and door tracks), then measure the opening. Balustrade panels are always made to measure, so the new glass is manufactured to your sizes and fitted on a scheduled return visit. Until then the opening stays secured.
A handrail that moves when you lean on it
Usually the base fixings, not the rail. Anchors stretch in concrete, base plates corrode under trapped moisture, and grub screws work loose from years of thermal cycling. We re-anchor posts, replace tired plates and re-bed fixings so the run is rigid again.
Glass rattling or shifting in its channel
The setting blocks and gaskets inside the base channel have perished. The panel is no longer clamped, only resting, and each gust makes it knock. Re-gasketing clamps the glass tight again and is one of the cheapest repairs we do.
Rust-coloured staining and pitted fittings
Stainless steel near the coast develops brown "tea staining" and pitting, and cheaper grades seize solid. We polish where the metal is sound and replace with marine-grade fittings where it is not, so the repair outlasts the original.
Water sitting at the base on terraces and balconies
A blocked channel or failed sealant joint at the balustrade base lets water pond and track into the slab. We clear the drainage path and reseal around the base fixings — small-scale waterproofing that spares you a much bigger leak repair below.
Panels drifting out of line
Settlement, one-sided sun exposure and loosening spigots slowly push panels out of alignment until the gaps look wrong and feel worse. We re-set and re-tension the run so spacing and line come back true.
Toughened or laminated: what balustrade glass must be
UAE safety regulations require toughened or laminated glass for balustrades; ordinary annealed glass has no place at the edge of a drop. Which of the two you need depends on the design. Toughened glass is several times stronger than annealed and granulates safely when it breaks. Laminated glass holds together after breakage, which matters for frameless and structural designs where the panel itself is the barrier and must keep standing even when damaged; toughened-laminated combines both behaviours. When we replace a panel, we match or improve on what the position demands rather than simply copying whatever was there. On a frameless balcony edge that means laminated construction; on a fully framed staircase infill, toughened alone is often right. You get the reasoning with the quote, not just a glass name.
Villa balconies and roof terraces
These take the worst of the weather: sun on one face, wind-blown sand, and a waterproofing junction at the base that must stay intact. Balustrade calls here often arrive together with a dragging or stiff balcony door — we handle balcony door repair on the same visit, one call-out for both. A balustrade has no doors or door hardware of its own, so that part of our price list simply does not apply here; the door beside the railing is its own repair.
Apartment balconies
The same faults plus building-specific glass and fittings. We measure what is actually installed and match it, so the repaired section does not stand out from the rest of the facade.
Staircase balustrades
They live indoors but wear from the human side: constant hand contact, knocks from furniture moves, and brackets loosened by decades of daily use. Most staircase repairs are hardware and fixings rather than glass.
Pool fencing
It corrodes fastest of all. Chlorinated splash plus sun is a brutal combination for spigots and clamps, and a barrier around water is exactly where you cannot tolerate a loose panel. We renew pool-fence fittings with grades chosen for that environment and re-tension the panels so the fence is rigid end to end.
